What's My Role in the Revolution?

It’s been one year since the presidential election. Yep.Are you already numbing out or burning out? When it comes to social transformation, do you wonder if you’re doing the right things, or doing enough? If so, it might be time to revisit your role in the revolution.Join Buddhist Peace Fellowship, MacArthur genius Ai-jen Poo, indigenous sovereignty activist Harmony Lambert (Chumash Nation), and Shambhala teacher Shante Paradigm Smalls for an online daylong retreat.Dive into Block | Build | Be at this retreat. We’ll be joined by special guest speakers to explore:

  • How can I do what I do best, and trust that other needs will be met?
  • How can I have more collaboration and less judgement with those who focus on a different role?
  • What is the brilliance and beauty behind each of these roles— Block | Build | Be?
  • How can I move through seasons of Blocking, Building, and Being to manage my own burnout AND be more effective?

Sample Schedule

Sometimes, it can look like social change is largely won through organizing resistance and direct action. Or if you’ve spent time in spiritual activist spaces, you might have heard that change begins within yourself. But there is no single correct role to play in fighting for social justice— contrary to the competitive and judgmental mindset we’ve inherited from capitalism. At BPF, we’ve been navigating these tensions through Block | Build | Be, a framework describing the essential qualities for social and spiritual transformation. As movement ancestor Grace Lee Boggs reminds us, “You don't choose the times you live in, but you do choose who you want to be.”
