CONTRACT: COMPASSIONATE CADRE CONVENERguanyin buddhaThe Buddhist Peace Fellowship seeks a Compassionate Cadre Convener for a 4-month contract to manage logistics for a 40-person retreat. We are seeking a warm and caring event planner to support our 40-person retreat, happening the weekend of July 15-17 in Petaluma, CA. The retreat (called the Compassionate Cadre) will bring together young Buddhist activists from across the US and Canada for leadership development, relationship building, and spiritual practice.   • Organize monthly video conference calls
  • Oversee air miles matching process
  • Coordinate travel logistics with participants
  • Coordinate lodging requests & access needs between participants and retreat site
  • Coordinate home stays for people will stay in the Bay Area before or after the retreat
  • Coordinate rides and/or other transportation to Petaluma
  • Serve as retreat manager
  • Coordinate evaluation and wrap-up tasks
  • Depending on skill sets and interests, there will likely will be space for organizing or media work beyond managing logistics

 Preferred qualities:

  • Able to attend July 15-17 retreat in Petaluma, CA
  • Systems-oriented and good at keeping track of details
  • Able to use Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Drive
  • Warm and friendly; excited to get to know Compassionate Cadre friends
  • Interested in building at the intersection of Buddhist teachings and social justice
  • Unafraid of phone & email
  • Enjoy friendly hounding of people to respond
  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a team, and know how to identify and initiate work in self-directed, autonomous ways
  • Familiarity with event planning, especially national conferences
  • Orientation toward accessibility, race and gender; good at helping folks feel cared for
  • Interested in organizing and/or media in additional to logistics management
  • Able to work some hours throughout the week to keep logistics moving forward
