Hiring a Development Assistant at Buddhist Peace Fellowship
The Buddhist Peace Fellowship is hiring a Development Assistant for 6 months (through February 2014) to assist us with refining, systematizing, and coordinating development tasks as we move to a new donor relationship management system. The position will be 10–12 hours/week, based in the Bay Area/East Bay, with additional hours required during our heaviest donation processing months of December and January. Base pay rate is $15/hour, with a rate increase possible for a candidate with significant experience at setting up and managing nonprofit development systems.
About the Position: We’re seeking a detail-oriented person who understands the value of building good relationships with nonprofit donors. You are excited to bring your experience with ongoing nonprofit development tasks like:
- Processing donations and sending thank you notes to individual donors
- Getting volunteers together to stuff envelopes with fundraising letters
- Cleaning up lists of mailing addresses and emails
- Staying in touch with monthly donors whose credit card has expired
- Supporting staff and board members in soliciting and tracking major gifts
You also love to set up systems, and enjoy wrangling repeatable tasks into a refined process that can be carried out by others. We need your help and input to:
- Refine our donation processing procedures
- Document procedures into a Donation Processing Manual
- Set up a new system allowing board and staff to build relationships with major donors
- As time permits, jump in on tasks like answering phone and email inquiries, overseeing a project to mail materials to people in prison, and getting rid of piles of old computer gear.
Personal Characteristics: BPF is a small, dynamic organization. You are comfortable working out of your co-workers’ homes as well as your own, as we do not currently have an office. You have flexibility, enthusiasm, and energy for engaging with changing circumstances. You work collaboratively as part of a team, and know how to identify and initiate work in self-directed, autonomous ways. You are interested in building at the intersection of Buddhist teachings and social justice political analysis.
