Sexual Harassment Strike In Cambodian Gap Supplier Factory

Did you know that over 2,500 Cambodian garment workers protesting sexual harassment went on an illegal strike and occupied their factory last month?

I'm a little late on this inspiring story (just found out about it through this wonderful summary of workers' struggles in August in East and Southeast Asia), but damn is it awesome.

And while the sexual harassment charges against manager Faruk Ahamed are still pending at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court (as far as I can tell), media reported the end of the strike as a "rare win," as Ocean Garment (a supplier of Gap, which called for investigation into the situation) reinstated five union leaders, and agreed to pay half-wages to all the strikers for pay lost during the protests.WARMS MY POLITICAL BUDDHIST HEART ON EVERY LEVEL. THANK YOU, OCEAN GARMENT STRIKERS, FOR BEING HELLA INSPIRING!!!love, katie
