LAST MEETING of the BUDDHIST PEACE FELLOWSHIP, Chicago Chapter
THURSDAY, May 15, 2008
LOCATION: Ancient Dragon Zen Gate at the the Cenacle Conference Center, 513
W. Fullerton
------------------------
1. David Loy Event Wrap-Up
Everyone agreed that the event went very, very well. We had around 85
people. David enjoyed the afternoon/evening very much, and would like to do
it again, possibly speaking on the topic of ecology and Buddhism. CAN TV
recording of the Loy talk will be aired starting on Sunday, June 8th at 2 PM
(channel 21).
2. Website Makeover in the Works
Carlos and Kevin will meet to brainstorm and plan work on an updated
website.
3. June 7th Buddhist Festival
The theme for this year's event is "Thinking Peace, Taking Action." Taigen
is scheduled to be the Mahayana speaker in a panel discussion, and he can
represent BPF Chicago.
4. No War on Iran update
Jack reports via e-mail: "the Evanston City Council adopted the No Attack on
Iran coalition's resolution at Monday's City Council meeting; however, as
reported... [in Chicago] Aldermen Stone and Balcer used a procedural
technique to delay a vote on the resolution at [the] City Council meeting
and the resolution is opposed by Mayor Daley. The Coalition did an
excellent, highly professional job of advocating for the resolution at
Tuesday's City Council Committee hearing on the subject, which featured
Scott Ritter and Steve Kinzer among several other experts on the Mideast.
The Coalition will be meeting soon to determine next steps before the
Chicago City Council. Alderman Joe Moore is the leading proponent."
