Dear Buddhist Peace Fellowship Chicago members
and friends,
Here are two reminders about our upcoming events:
----------
1. BPF Chicago participation in the Eyes Wide
Open event, Sunday May 27th
The American Friends Service Committee exhibit
"Eyes Wide Open" returns to Chicago's Grant
Park-- downtown at Jackson and Columbus (near the
Petrillo stage)-- May 24-28 (see details below).
Sunday the 27th at the event will be an
interfaith day-- and BPF Chicago will have a
sitting presence there. *** Please come sit with
us anytime between noon and 4 PM, for as long as
you like.
*** For setup, a core group of us will be meeting
at noon, at the northwest corner of Jackson and
Columbus. The schedule for that day is: Quaker
meeting for worship 11 AM; OUR SITTING 12-4 PM;
Interfaith meeting with Kathy Kelly and Raed
Jarrar at 4 PM. (Can also contact Michael
McConnell at mmcconnell at afsc.org about details of
the Sunday schedule.)

Eyes Wide Open-- An Exhibition on the Human Cost
of the Iraq War
GRANT PARK, Chicago-- Jackson and Columbus Drive
May 24 12 p.m.-6 p.m., May 25-27 8 a.m.-8 p.m.,
May 28 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
In January 2004, the American Friends Service
Committee unveiled Eyes Wide Open with 504 pairs
of boots, each tagged with the name, rank, age
and home state of a fallen soldier or Marine.
Since then, the exhibit has traveled to over 80
locations including Washington D.C.'s National
Mall, New York City's Central Park,
Philadelphia's Independence Mall and the rural
towns of New England, the Midwest, the South and
the West Coast. With each passing week, each stop
in a new city, more pairs of boots are added to
represent the newly fallen. This Memorial Day
weekend, the exhibit returns to Chicago, the city
where it all started. Military families, Quaker
meetings, and peace activists from the 50 states
, have been invited to Grant Park to take the
boots back to their states and continue the work
of Eyes Wide Open in their communities. We invite
you to come see this important memorial, that the
National Catholic Reporter called, "an event of
disturbing prophetic power" in its entirety for
the last time. Volunteers are still needed for
May 24 1pm-9pm, May 25-27 8am-6pm and May 28
3pm-8pm for the de-installation of the exhibit.
We are offering a "War is Costly, Peace is
Priceless" t-shirt to all volunteers of five
hours or more at a discounted donation of $5. To
volunteer, please contact Erin Polley at
312.427.2533 or epolley at afsc.org. For full
