Friends of the Chicagoland Buddhist Peace Fellowship,
Please save the date for the following March 9th Event:

U.S. Militarism and the Three Poisons
A Buddhist Perspective

with
David Loy

Friday March 9th at 7:00 pm
Unity Temple in Oak Park
(875 Lake Street)

Buddhist scholar and Zen teacher David Loy will speak on the
connection between our personal and collective sense of lack and our
- the United States' - perpetual dependence on a state of war. In his
writings, David uses the central Buddhist teaching of sunyata
(emptiness) to explore the many ways we try to fill up our sense of
"nothingness," the consequences of our inevitable failure to do so,
as well as the potential of the Buddhist path to lead us out of such
quagmires and away from the three poisons of our collective greed,
hatred, and delusion.

David R. Loy is Besl Family Professor of Ethics,
Religion and Society at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. His
work is primarily in comparative philosophy and religion,
particularly comparing Buddhist with modern Western thought. In
addition to papers in various journals, he is the author of six books
including A Buddhist History of the West: studies in lack and The
Great Awakening: a buddhist social theory. A Zen student for many
years, he is qualified as a teacher in the Sanbo Kyodan
tradition. David recently returned to the U.S. after 28 years in
Japan and Singapore

Sponsored by the Chicago Chapter of the Buddhist Peace Fellowship and
