"The Saffron Revolution – How We Can Support the Non-Violent Resistance in Burma"
When: 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Where: 544 27th Ave (at Cherry) in the Central Area neighborhood of Seattle
This month, BPF Seattle hosts Larry Dohrs, who will speak about recent developments in Burma and how we can support Burma’s hopes for freedom and the non-violent resistance movement there.
Larry Dohrs has had connections with Burma for over 25 years and is Co-Chairman of the board of directors of the US Campaign for Burma (USCB). He travels to Southeast Asia every year, and has had the privilege of meeting with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and other leaders of the democracy movement. He leads the Seattle Burma Roundtable in Seattle on a monthly basis. He is currently an adjunct Professor for Economics at Antioch University in Seattle and Vice President of Newground Social Investment.
Buddhist Peace Fellowship-Seattle meets regularly on the second Sunday of every month. Meditation begins at 6:30 pm and the discussion begins at 7 pm and lasts until 8:30. Our monthly gatherings center on a dharma discussion of some aspect of Buddhist social activism. All are welcome to attend. Our intent is to make our monthly Sharma activist discussions alive and meaningful, open to new folks, and Buddhist in inspiration. The practice of listening as a way of healing and being present with the suffering of the world is the focus for the chapter’s efforts this coming year. Through our monthly discussions, we wish to learn and deepen this practice.
